Stay in touch with instant messaging software

Once a month my 2 year old daughter and I call her aunt. We live in London; they live in NY. It has allowed us to communicate using text, voice and video. My sister has literally seen her grow: Something that would not have been possible a decade ago.

Instant messaging software allows us to chat instantly to anyone. Most of my friends and family don’t live in London but I never feel alone because someone is always there to talk to.

This short article is the result of finding out that many (yes many) people still don’t use Instant Messaging either because they haven’t tried it or they hated the fact that the ones they have tried slowed down their PC with advertising.

There are many Instant Messaging software out there and the vast majority or the popular ones are free. Here is some of the more popular Instant Messaging Software with their links;

1. Google Talk

2. Windows Live Messenger

3. AOL Instant Messenger

4. Skype Instant Messenger

5. Yahoo Instant Messenger

My favourites or the ones that I use are Google Talk and Skype. I mainly use Google Talk because;

1. As far as I am concerned it is a clean piece of software that is not crammed full of advertising that slows my PC down. There is no advertising at all.

2. The great thing about Google Talk is that you can have Voice and Video Chats.

3. It’s simple to use and very friendly interface.

There are other features, but those three are the main reasons I used Google Talk. Also it’s easy to setup and it’s a feather light piece of software that doesn’t take much if not any disk space. It took about 10 seconds to install on my laptop. No exaggeration. I thought it didn’t install for a second until I saw the icon.

Another bonus is that you don’t really need to install the software to use Google Talk. That’s great news for people who work in companies where you can’t install applications or instant messenger software. As long as you a have a Google Mail aka Gmail account you can use Google Talk. Google Talk is integrated with Gmail.

I am not promoting Google Talk because I am a fan of Google. I am quite neutral. I just like great products. When it comes to Office Apps Microsoft is the best and so on.

To get it, Download Google Talk from Google. Once you're on the Web site, click the download button, click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the prompts to install it.
